To filter spam comments

When commenting on posts your ip address, email and comment is shared with Akismet. This information is used to compare to their database of known spam to help filter spam comments. In all honesty this sharing of data with a 3rd party, even if it is a trusted one is distasteful to me. But unless I decide to disable comments or move commenting behind a payway to reduce spam and moderation duties the current solution is to use Akismet but make sure it's done with full disclosure.
